A fungus (when there are many we say - fungi) is an organism (living thing) that can be single-celled or made up of many cells. Fungi include yeasts, rusts, smuts, mildews, molds, mushrooms and toadstools.
Many fungi live in soil and water, and others live on on plants or animals. Although a mushroom may look like a plant, it isn't, it's a fungus!
Fungi are used by humans to make bread, wine, beer and certain cheeses.
