Bacteria

Bacteria are single-celled organisms (living things). The word "bacteria" is plural, when there is just one, we say bacterium.

Bacteria can live almost anywhere - in soil, hot springs, acidic environments, seawater and even inside other organisms!

There are many different types of bacteria. Some can make us sick by causing infections, but other bacteria are "good" and help us out. Bacteria live in our stomachs to help us digest food, and bacteria are used to help prepare food such as yogurt or cheese.
